CONSTRUCT
Quality baked in

Construction in the heritage sector is about judgement as much as technique. We focus on using materials honestly, combining modern performance standards with traditional craft where it matters, and ensuring that what is hidden works as well as what is seen.
Tarragon Barn,
Wolverrhampton

A barn conversion built using a concrete block structure paired with a standing seam roof by Ash & Lacy. Externally, the design deliberately contrasts TIER natural stone with vertical larch staves to create a clear visual break between elements. The result is a traditional building transformed into a contemporary agricultural form that sits comfortably in its landscape.

This project highlights the unseen construction work that determines comfort and compliance. The build included a 150 mm concrete slab with 100 mm Kooltherm insulation and screed, alongside walls with 150 mm Rockwool cavity fill. High-efficiency Bosch boilers and underfloor heating were integrated from the outset, delivering strong thermal performance without compromising the building’s character.

A sensitive restoration focused on retaining original fabric wherever possible. Authentic Staffordshire bricks were renovated and repointed, original roof tiles were carefully re-laid, and large timber beams were shot-blasted and treated rather than replaced. The construction approach respected the building’s age and story while making it fit for modern use.
